Training & Treating
Treat-based training basics that actually stick
Reward within about a second of the behavior you want. The closer the treat is to the moment, the clearer the connection for your dog.
Use small pieces. Breaking a crunchy biscuit into quarters gives you four rewards instead of one and keeps your dog from filling up mid-session.
Keep sessions short — five minutes of focused work beats twenty minutes of drifting attention. End while your dog is still interested.
Treats are a supplement to a complete diet. Adjust portions on days with heavy training.
